Where is the best place to get fiberglass and resin to build a 1 man boat?  I'm assuming online?

This is from the old website, not sure who posted it, I plan to order this week from them and will let you know how I did.

Yes Marv hit it right one. Although I may start selling materials for the boats right now please use US compostes.

We are working on pricing for the cloth and the epoxy resins now. So please don't wait for me. It may be awhile before were ready.

Guys we want pictures of the builds.

It will be June before I start but there will be plenty of photos.  I noticed while looking around that some builders use a lighter weight fiberglass (6oz vs 10oz) on their boats.  Would this lower the final weight of the boat and is it a bad idea for these layouts.

From  what I found, if you use the epoxy you can get away with 6 oz cloth.  If you use the polyester resin you need the 10 oz cloth.

The difference in weight between the cloths for this boat is about 4 lbs.

The difference in cost of resin are: $30/ gal for polyester resin, $40/ gal for vinyl-ester resin and $60/ gal for epoxy resin

Scott yes most are using 6oz e glass and epoxy resin and that is what I recommend. It will be alittle harder on the wallet but much better in the long run. Polyester resin will delaminate from wood where Epoxy will bond really well.

Use 6oz and epoxy resin.

I just ordered  1 gal epoxy, 15 yards of 6 oz cloth, 4 oz color pigment, epoxy pumps and 4" glass tape from US composites.  With shipping to Michigan it came to $190.00

I have a gal of epoxy and other glassing tools left over from last year after patching another boat. So I should be good to go this weekend and the next few weekends at Pops house.

When glassing the 1 man layout boat should I use the thick or thin epoxy resin? and how much resin and cloth will it take to do the boat? and is this doubled for the 2 man layout?

go with the thin resin for glassing.  the thick stuff doesn't wet out the glass mat good enough and will not bond properly.

I found that I could get a quart of resin at Boaters World for $19.  WalMart has the same stuff, under the Bondo brand, for $12.  They carry the cloth also.
